Plumbing 101
What usually causes a leaky faucet:
- bad seats
- cartridge and pressure balance valve
-dirt and debris in faucets
-excessive water pressure
What usually causes leaky toilets:
-flappers and fill valves
-always check flush valves which may have a crack
-build up of calcium and debris; water and solids will not flow evenally together causing stoppage
Tips for all homeowners:
Have a meter key and wrench, inexpensive and available at all hardware stores. Know how to turn water off at meter.
Water heaters:
-average life of water heater is 8-10 years old.
-if water heater leaks turn cold water valve off and electric or gas, call plumber, permit is required to replace the water heater.
Gas Leaks:
-If you smell gas call your gas provider and plumber immediately
-If you plan to add gas appliances call plumber to be safe.
Disposals:
-if jammed may have allen head slot at bottom of disposal, turn until frees up not to hard may have to call plumber
-If garabage disposal makes no sound press red reset button on bottom
-If doesn't work or loud needs to be replaces call a plumber
-Tip for all Homeowners: Always replace drain under sink.
